Rosman's Mayor Brian Shelton's Charges Dismissed

An assault charge against the mayor of Rosman was dismissed Tuesday in Transylvania County District Court.

Brian Elliott Shelton, 41, of Morgan Mill Road, was charged with communicating threats and assaulting Crystal Rose Leonard, 27, whom a friend identified as the mother of Shelton’s children, according to court records.

Gov. Bev Purdue Signs DNA Legislation

Last Thursday in Greenville, I (Leslie Parker) had the great honor to represent the N.C. Council for Women at a historic moment that many of us who work as advocates for survivors of domestic violence have long dreamed about: The signing by Gov. Bev Perdue of legislation requiring DNA samples to be taken from those charged with felony crimes.

A equally important aspect of the legislation is the addition of more lab analysts who can test rape kits and other evidence more quickly. On behalf of crime survivors and families of victims, we thank the Governor and our legislators for standing firm on their pledge to make our communities safer.

  Charlie Sheen Pleaded Guilty

 The "Two and a Half Men" actor pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor third-degree assault in exchange for prosecutors dropping two other more serious charges, including a felony charge of menacing. He was sentenced to 30 days in a rehabilitation center, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management.

A previous plea agreement reached in June called for Sheen to plead guilty to the same charge and serve his time at the Pitkin County jail in work release program, where Sheen would be released during the day to work at a theater company in Aspen.
