Information Introducing a new friend, Angela Shelton... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJq04Rx2vzs&feature=related Sexual assault is any unwanted sexual act done by one person to another. It happens to both males and females of all ages. It includes:
- Child abuse (incest, fondling, rape)
- Acquaintance/date rape
- Sodomy
- Voyeurism
- Pornography
- Forcing you to participate in or watch sexual acts with others
- Sexual harassment
- Any sexual act done against your will
Statistically the number of sex crimes are based on the cases that are reported, imagine the true number. Nationally, one in six women and one in thrity three men have been sexually assaulted. In North Carolina one in five women have been sexually assaulted.
Rape does not discriminate against race, gender, monetary status or physical appearance. People with physical and mental disabilities are at even greater risk of being assaulted.
Rape is not about sexual desire, but about power and control. Rape is a crime of violence.
Marital Rape Forced sex within a marriage is not a “wifely duty.” It is rape. Marital rape victims suffer from depression, anxiety, fear, PTSD, flashbacks and low self esteem.
Childhood Sexual Abuse Childhood sexual abuse is often a family secret—everybody knows, but no one says anything or stops it. Without the family's protection the victim grows up feeling worthless and believing it was all her fault, feeling that she does not deserve anything good in life.
Gay And Lesbian Rape Gay men and lesbians are less likely to come forward with rape because they are “gay and asked for it.” One in three lesbians are raped by women. Many feel that they are raped because of their sexual preference, or that men raped them to “fix” them.
